Power Plants often face leakages at thermowell joints which are prone to corrosion. A customer recently faced this issue and feed water was gushing out from the thermowell joint, as seen in the picture below.
The client calculated that it would be costly to shut down the facility in order to replace the leaky thermowell.. NESL was contacted to identify the main reason for the leaking and offer a long-term fix.
As the thermowell is constantly exposed to water at a temperature of 115°C and a pressure of 120 bar, our service engineer discovered that the junction area between the inlet line and HPH Thermowell had suffered leaking due to corrosion.
The ideal compound to stop this type of leakage is NES-1/2A, which our service engineer decided to inject through an injection point right on the thermowell joint area in order to create a long-lasting solution. NES-1/2A™ is a blend of synthetic rubber with non-staining properties mixed with organic and inorganic solid fillers that provides excellent leak sealing performance.
The leak was soon stopped, and the task was finished to the client’s satisfaction.
